Briana Scurry made one of the most famous saves in U.S. sports history in the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup final. Now the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame goalkeeper and two-time Olympic gold medalist is chasing a new number: 99.
Scurry stars in Breaking 99, presented by Gainbridge, a new instructional series from Gainbridge℠, The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican (“The ANNIKA”) and the LPGA that follows her journey to break 99 in an 18-hole round before the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027™ kicks off on June 24, 2027. Episode one premieres Tuesday, Nov. 10, on the official LPGA YouTube Channel and LPGA.com.
“I’ve always loved a challenge. It’s what drove me throughout my soccer career, and that competitive spirit hasn’t gone anywhere,” said Scurry. “I was so inspired by my experience at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican last year. I’m excited to take on a new sport with the goal of breaking 99 in honor of the ‘99ers ahead of the 2027 Women’s World Cup.”
Scurry’s path to the series began at The ANNIKA in 2025. As a Gainbridge ambassador, she took part in the Wednesday Pro-Am as a celebrity guest caddie for WNBA star and fellow Gainbridge ambassador Caitlin Clark. She also hit a celebrity tee shot on the 10th hole and walked the fairways with World No. 1 Nelly Korda.
Guiding Scurry is Trillium Rose, an award-winning LPGA Teaching Professional who serves as director of instruction at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md. Rose is recognized as one of Golf Digest’s 50 Best Teachers in America, as well as one of the LPGA’s Top 50 Teachers in America, both for 2026-27. She also is on Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers in America list. Rose is widely respected for her expertise in effective practice and player development and has spent over 20 years helping thousands of golfers elevate their play. She has coached golfers of all abilities ranging from beginners to top amateurs and professionals.
“Working with Briana Scurry, someone who knows what it takes to reach the top of her sport, is a rare and rewarding opportunity,” said Rose. “She has that experience grinding through setbacks. Taking risks and getting through the hard parts is what you hope every student has, and a two-time Olympic gold medalist definitely has it.”
Episode one covers Scurry’s first lessons at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md., goes behind the scenes at her club fitting with Titleist, and includes a special FaceTime with fellow Gainbridge ambassador Annika Sorenstam. New episodes will be released through June 2027 on the LPGA YouTube channel and LPGA.com.
Scurry continues her journey when she returns to The ANNIKA at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla., playing alongside Rose in the Monday, Nov. 9 Pro-Am. Cameras will document her Pro-Am round and her progress for the series’ second episode.
